Conventional seed drills or grass seeders can be used to plant the small (400,000 per pound) seeds at a rate of 2.5 pounds per acre. Stand densities of 500,000 plants per acre or more are desired. Research is ongoing to determine the optimum agronomic practices. Strong stands and reasonable yields have been produced in the past years with no additional fertilizer or chemical weed or pest control. Harvest is done with conventional combines and yields 1,500 to 2,500 pounds per acre. Greater and more constant yields are expected with more research and experience. |
